What's in a Name

I heard an interesting story the other day about a little child in pre-school who had an extremely humiliating day because of what he called body parts.  It wasn't nice what this child probably went through.

We've all done it. We don't want to tell our children what things are because we don't want to expose them to certain things too early in their lives and then they get exposed to it anyway.

But apart from parents calling fingers pumpkins, we see that naming conventions can really mess up more than just a pre-school child's day.

When communicating with others it's often very difficult because you're never too sure if when you say apple, they understand what you mean by apple. We often use to same words to describe completely different things and that can cause major problems in the world.

In the workplace for example if I call a maintenance report - "MAPR" and someone calls a materials report - "MAPR" then we're in big trouble when we start having a conversation.

A name is more than a label as some parents like to use it. A name defines the meaning and identity of everything.

So let's be careful with how we "name" everything.
