Can an Angie's List work in Trinidad?

If only Trinidad had an Angie's List!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Customer Service is a NON existent concept in Trinidad and Tobago.

Let's take a step back - SERVICE - is a non-existent concept in Trinidad and Tobago.

Only in Trinidad can a building contractor not have the qualifications of a building contractor.
Only in Trinidad can a plumber know nothing about plumbing.
Only in Trinidad can people constantly have food poisoning from restaurants and they NOT be shut down.

Many of my colleagues and friends have toyed with the idea of an Angie's List for Trinidad, but what we have found is that it will only identify to us what we already know - there are very few persons offering "services" in Trinidad who actually do a good job. But the real question is - will service providers actually improve their service if they knew there were being judged.

I recently heard about a family who had contracted a "guy" to do some plumbing on the house they were building. Like everything else in Trinidad - the guy was a friend of a friend's friend. He came did the job, got his money and disappeared. One year later plumbing problems arise. So naturally you call the person who did the job. Here's the response - "Oh I doh do dat no more".

Now I recognize that people are free to change professions, take a new direction in life etc., but if you had even an ounce of respect for yourself and the work you have done, you will go and fix the problem.

When a doctor kills someone in surgery and decides to quit, he does not magically lose his medical training.

With an increased use of social media and access to the internet in Trinidad and Tobago I truly wonder if  service providers will take pride in their work if they knew they were being judged by the very people they serve?
