London 2012 - A Grand success for the Caribbean

The commentators were right when they said that the Men's 100m Final was a race between Jamaica and USA.

When you look at the starting line up it was quite interesting to see the countries -
Trinidad and Tobago
Jamaica
USA
Jamaica
USA
Jamaica
USA
Netherlands by Curacao .

The Caribbean has clearly showed that they can represent the world well at the World's most competitive games - The Olympics.

No other time can a person be proud to be a national of their country than at the Olympic Games.

For 10 seconds all Jamaicans supported their athletes and their country. The same effect took place in Trinidad when Gordon took the Bronze medal in the Men's 400 m Final and the Grenada National took GOLD.

But the proudest moment of any athlete and any country in the Olympic Games is to see their flag raising and the National Anthem playing for the world to hear.
Keshorn Walcott - Gold medalist in the Men's Javelin was able to live that dream and share it with his country.

I have read many articles that speak negatively about our athletes and their "non-performance" in the games. As Richard Thompson reminded us - winning medals is not the only important thing at the Olympics. Just to be at the Olympics is an accomplishment and to make it to the finals of any Olympic event is an honor in and of itself.

To be present at the Olympics more than once is an even greater accomplishment. To all the haters who asked Bovell to retire - I say to you all - BE GONE!!

I salute all the Athletes and I am proud, especially as a ex-track athlete, to see so many events being covered at the Olympics. I sit here and recall my own aspirations of wanting to represent Trinidad in the Olympics prior to 2000.

As a nation we really need to support the things that will actually take this country places. Just look at what other first world nations have done through sports.  We should not just be there for the athletes when they win. We need to support them, their coaches, the trainers, the physcial therapists. We need to support the athletes by allowing the opportunity to have a JOB as an athlete and create employment through Sports.

Yes we are proud of our athletes when they win and we want to jump on the bandwagon when they win, but are we aware and do we even care about what they go through to get to London, China, Greece, Atlanta? have we been aware? Have we cared?

It's time we put our pride into a far more important place - the journey to The Olympics!

Congratulations to all the athletes! Swimmers, runners, cyclists, shooters, sailors and boxers.

We Salute you!

There are few times I am proud of my country but nothing makes me prouder than to see athletes advance in their careers, knowing what they've had to go through to achieve what they have achieved.

Thank you for giving me a reason to be proud of my country.
