Surprise! Surprise!

Well I did tell you all that I would be back after Spain took the crown!

I guess I was just as good as the Octopus!

So World Cup is over and for all the real sports fanatics enjoy the rest of the year. For us every 2 year fanatics - (World Cup and Olympics) we're back to the ordinary things of life.

So summer time is in full swing, well actually almost over! I don't know about the US but in Trinidad as soon as school is closed the roads magically become clear. Most people are able to leave their homes up to 30 mins later and still get to work on time!!!

How about we keep the children out of school all year round! I know that's not possible, they have to go to school to learn all the things that they will need when they grow up. (I say in my most sarcastic tone ever).

It's not that I don't believe in education, I have just found over the years that many people are attending schools, universities etc, but they are not being educated. I'm not sure if the breakdown is in the teaching or the learning or if it's a little of both. Children these days don't seem to really "know" anything; save the lyrics of the newest song that hit the top 10 singles, or what the most famous star was wearing to the Grammy's. Our children - no surprise here - are consumed with what our world has become. Sadly it is no fault of theirs, because we the adults have created the world that they now live in. We were all dissatisfied with the world we were brought up in and decided to change it for "the better". We decided to invent more cars, more movies, more entertainment, more ways to make money, more drugs. You name it we invented it. Now all we want is more peace and quiet. Well surprise surprise to find peace in a noisy world you have to do some real soul searching.

Surprised again? well don't be the world as we know it is not really the world most of us want to be apart of anymore. We're tired of the hustle and bustle, we're tired of all the things that now seem so unnecessary, we're tired of being tired. The human being has lost his focus on what are the things that really matter.

I watched a family the other day. From all appearances it looked as if the family was having a little "family" time; they appeared to be making an attempt to do something relaxing for the whole family. The young girl, who seemed to be the eldest, had headphones in her ear, listening to music and completely ignoring the rest of the family. The mother was attempting to handle the two smaller ones, while the father took a business call.

This is sadly what our families and our world have come to; and yet that mother's sister, or friend, or aunt will be surprised when, in a few years, the couple decides to divorce, or separate. When your family is NOT one of your priorities - don't be surprised when you end up with none in a few years. If we ignore the things that matter we cannot expect them to survive. When we place all the material things of this earth ahead of everything else remember that this is ALL you will have material - inanimate objectives.

When you place your job ahead of your child's violin recital, or football game; don't be surprised if one day you wake up and hear you children calling you "the sperm donor" or "the egg donor" rather than "mom" and "dad". To them you haven't been a mother or father as such why would they want to refer to you as that.

I know this may seem harsh, but sometimes we have to examine our actions and stop being "surprised" by the results when we know exactly the outcome that our actions will produce.

Reflect today what really matters in your world and in your life and examine if that thing is what you want for all your life.

Have a Great one everybody.
